I decided I should offer a prize for my lovely readers in celebration of my 101st post. After receiving a copy of Hello, Cupcake! as a birthday present, and seeing what cute creations can be made to decorate cupcakes, I decided this would be a great prize for someone. (1 prize available)

All you need to do to win, is write a comment below (to this post) answering the following question:

If you were to hold a themed party, what theme would you choose and how would you decorate and/or flavour your cupcakes to match the theme?

You may enter once daily (as long as your answer is different), and the competition ends on January 27th 2010 at 5pm AEST, with the winner being announced 30th January 2010. (Please make sure you use a valid email address, as this is how I will contact you).

** Please note: This competition is now closed. The winner has now been chosen: Katherine Ryan with cocktail party inspired cupcakes – see below for her answer **

Please note: This is not a sponsored competition, I will be buying from an online book store that says it ships worldwide – so this competition is open for everyone! (So tell your family and friends).

Happy New Year again everyone!

  1. definitely has to be a Hawaiian party for me and cupcakes would be dressed with an iced frangipani, or perhaps even a real one. your Chocolate Swirl Croquembouche is amazing! 🙂 happy new year!

  2. Linda says:

I would have to say a black and white French themed one because its so elegant. So black forest cupcakes would be served. 🙂 (Last comment says it all: love the croquembouche and happy new year too)

  3. Ellie says:

Fantastic round-up! Wishing you a very happy new year 🙂

  4. You certainly made some wonderful dishes this year, Anita. I have been so inspired. Here’s to a great 2010!

  5. Your roundup shows that your desserts are getting better and better, though I’ll have to revisit that gorgeous white choc honeycomb mudcake. Have a great year in 2010!

  6. Jeanne says:

What a delicious roundup! Happy New Year to you as well! I would hold a baseball themed party. I’m not sure that hot dog flavored cupcakes would be good, so I’d make the cupcakes Cracker Jack (caramel) flavor. I would decorate them to look like baseballs and mitts.

  7. Happy new year Anita!

  8. Yum! You’re making my mouth water. That book is fabulous and the dogs on the front are genius. Happy New Year to you! 😀

  9. Trissa says:

I’ve got this book as well – you are right – it is choc full of great ideas! Anyway, love the round-up – especially the croquembouche – amazing!

  10. Barbara says:

A heavenly roundup, but have to say the croquembouche is the big winner!
    Happy New Year, Anita!

  11. Natalia says:

My party would be Irish. The cupcakes would be flavoured with Irish Baileys with light green icing and darker green four leaf clovers. Also, Guiness cupcakes, for variety of course!

  12. Rilsta says:

Happy 101th post! 🙂 It seems like you would have a lot more posts than that with all your fabulous creations! You have truly outdone yourself with that chocolate swirl croquembouche – it looks so amazing!!

  13. Happy 101st post!! so cool to look over some of your creations from 2009!! Makes me salivate and want to break my new years resolution now!!

Hmmmm, I think I would hold an mad haters party, where each cupcake is a different falvour with a cute made hat ontop. Dont ask me how I would make them, but it would be fun making them!!

  14. Congrats on your 101st post……… I am going to reach it too pretty soon….

A great toast to your wonderful blog – the recipes and pictures! Can’t wait to see more coming from you, Anita!

What a great year it has been for you! The croquembouche and the triple chocolate praline tart have stolen my attention. Here’s to another good year.

  16. Juliana says:

Happy New Year Anita! Thanks for the round-up, great desserts and dishes, the pictures are amazing…I’ll try to make the naan bread…as I was looking for a recipe to make them 🙂
In regards to the theme, I think I’d make like a garden theme, with all kind of flowers and garden bugs (I mean the cute ones).

  17. Yummum says:

I absolutely love your site, have just found it and I too have a huge passion for baking and cooking and I love cooking for my family and friends. I too have an obsession with cookbooks and I love just pulling one off the shelf and “reading” it for pleasure.

I had planned a Winter Themed party for my son for June this year. I will be making Vanilla cupcakes with fluffy white italian meringue icing (to resemble snow) on top will be sugared almonds with their tips dipped in chocolate, with two tiny dots on them to resemble penguins and a tiny igloo made of sugar cubes on top.
I love when my kids birthdays come round, making and decoration birthday cakes and watching the reactions of the guests is the best. Keep up the fantastic web site, cant wait to see what you add this year.
    Bless you.

  18. Jennifer says:

    A purple theme!

Plenty of balloons/streamers and flowers decorating the house and decorate the cupcakes with either purple or white icing, then do the opposite coloured flower on top!

Or a purple coloured croquembouche! 😉

Perfect way to celebrate my 30th!

  19. Amy L says:

I’d like to do an Italian themed party and make tiramisu cupcakes decorated with chocolate covered espresso beans and whipped cream.

  20. Congratulations! You have had an amazing year. I love this summary of all your favourites. Each one looks spectacular. All the best for this year. I look forward to reading your blog and seeing many more creative desserts. You are an inspiration.

  21. Vic says:

It sounds like you’re trying to re-gift your birthday present! Ha ha- just kidding.
I might host a casino-themed party with the cupcakes decorated with things like:
    poker chips (using coloured liquorice)
    dice (decorated sugar cubes)
the old school symbols from poker machines (cherry, pineapple etc. using lollies and icing)
feathers like from the casino show girls headpieces (prob. not great to use real feathers so maybe just paint on the top with icing?)

Wrt flavour, I’d either flavour the actual cupcake OR the icing with: champagne (standard or pink)
    and, to mix it up:
martini (gin/vermouth- probably with strawberry to take the edge off).

Oh- and make the cupcake tree look like a roulette wheel!

Here’s to another fabulous year of your blog!

  22. Sue Sparks says:

Hmmm, I would hold a “An Evening with Julia” party and decorate with a french theme in black and pink:) I would serve french vanilla cupcakes with pink icing and decorate them with mini banners or cookies that say “bon appetit” or “ooh la la” 🙂 I just might do this! 🙂

You had an amazing culinary year!!! Cheers to 2010!

P.S. Thanks for your comment on my blog!

  23. Katherine Ryan says:

I love the idea of a cocktail party, where the cupcakes themselves are flavoured as cocktails! I would do a Pina Colada one, with a hint of yellow colouring, pineapple and coconut flavour, and a rich creamy coconut flavoured icing.. a Mojito cupcake, flavoured with lime, with pale green, mint-flavoured icing.. a Brandy Alexander cake, chocolate flavoured with a touch of Creme de Cacao, and a rich, creamy icing flavoured with brandy, topped with grated chocolate… a Strawberry Dacquiri cupcake, tinted pink with small pieces of real strawberry in it, topped with pale pink strawberry flavoured icing.. I’ve got myself all excited about the idea now, I think I’ll test out some of these ideas 🙂 Thank you for this competition, I would love to win!

  24. Elizabeth W says:

I would create a retro themed party.

My cupcakes would be retro-y colors, like green, yellow, pink. The green cupcakes would taste like key lime pies, yellow, like lemon meringue, and the pink ones would taste like strawberry cream pies. Each would be frosted in REAL buttercream, with real butter.
